When the Riddles acquired The Woodside in 2021, they brought with them a decade of independent hospitality success and decades of industry experience.
“We always loved the idea of doing something in Doune,” Joanna says. “It’s such a vibrant village with so much charm and The Woodside had beautiful bones.”
The result of their bold investment? A light-filled space with a pub, coffee house, terrace dining, eleven boutique rooms and a beautifully finished function suite.
“We’re always a little unfeasibly optimistic,” laughs Stuart. “But that’s what it takes. If you believe in the experience you’re creating, people feel that.”

From breakfast to dinner, The Woodside serves elevated comfort food made with local ingredients and serious culinary skill.
“Being a chef is still at the core of how I think,” Stuart explains. “We’re not just doing food that looks good on Instagram, we’re focused on flavour, consistency and quality.”
With the same care given to coffee as to cocktails, and every guest welcomed like an old friend, The Woodside is a gathering place as much as a destination.
The eleven letting rooms bring stylish, contemporary accommodation to Doune, an ideal base for castle visits, nature walks or just unwinding with a drink on the terrace.
“We want people to feel like this is their second home,” says Joanna. “Somewhere to relax, recharge and reconnect.”
The Woodside is proof that thoughtful design, good food and genuine hospitality never go out of style.
