THE GREEN WELLY STOP

A warm welcome awaits at Tyndrum’s Green Welly Stop; a vibrant family business nestled just off the picturesque West Highland Way.

FROM VILLAGE STORE TO MUCH MORE

Back in 1965, family members Leslie and Betty Gosden, Lamond Gosden, and Lesley and Derek Wilkie embarked on a journey that started with a humble Post Office and General Store, complete with a trusty petrol pump. Little did they know that their endeavour would blossom into an iconic haven for hungry adventurers bound for the Scottish Highlands.

Fast forward to the 1980s, when Derek Wilkie had a stroke of genius. He opened a shop offering an array of wellies, walking boots and stylish Barbour jackets. Customers quickly fell in love with the place, affectionately calling it “The Green Welly Stop.” The name stuck like glue, becoming synonymous with the cherished food and shopping destination.

THREE GENERATIONS

The torch has now been passed to the vibrant third generation represented by Fiona Robertson (daughter of Lesley & Derek) and her partner Edward.

Fiona said: “In 2000, we decided to give ourselves a facelift, officially rebranding as The Green Welly Stop to honour our roots and the community that made us who we are.”

Together, they have nurtured The Green Welly Stop to offer a range of food options.

Fiona added: “Our bustling establishment boasts two inviting cafés, a filling Station, retail shops brimming with unique gifts and a whisky shop. Oh, and let’s not forget our pride and joy—our world-class, spotless loos! We’ve made sure they are accessible to all, with ample disabled parking right at the front for our valued customers.”

PIT STOP OR LEISURELY LUNCH

A haven for hungry walkers, cyclists and passing tourists, the main café is the perfect place to relax and refuel.

Fiona added: “We’re not about fancy cuisine; we’re all about fresh, honest, and soul-filling comfort food that leaves you satisfied and ready for the next leg of your adventure.

“We specialize in hearty, homemade comfort food that warms the soul. From freshly baked treats and mouthwatering sandwiches to our tempting selection of gluten-free soups and dishes that cater to various dietary needs.

“And for those seeking a quick bite, our smaller café offers sizzling hot snacks, scrumptious sandwiches, and mouthwatering homemade pizza.”

Making a quick pit stop? Their filling station also stocks fresh sandwiches and piping hot savoury pies.

TEAM EFFORT

The Green Welly Stop’s mission goes beyond satisfying hunger cravings.

Fiona explained: “We aim to create an unforgettable experience, where good food and fine shopping seamlessly intertwine. But we couldn’t do it without our remarkable team—they’re the true heroes who have weathered the storms of the past few years and continue to amaze us every day. We believe in nurturing talent from within, which is why we conduct most of our training in-house, cultivating a family atmosphere that shines through in everything we do.

“Don’t just take our word for it. Come visit us soon!”
