Founded in 2015 by career salesman Brian McGregor and his daughter Jill, the business was named after Brian’s grandson Henry, born the previous October.
“Henry arriving was the catalyst,” Brian says. “It was the push I needed to finally do what I’d always wanted: run my own independent, family business.”
From selling Mars Bars and Duracell batteries in his early days, to 20 years with coffee roasters Brodies, Brian knew his way around both sales and beans.
But stepping out on his own was a leap of faith, swapping long commutes for a 12-yard walk to his garden office, and a logistics hub in the family garage.
“We started with no customers and no stock, just decades of experience and a determination to do things differently,” explains Brian.

In the decade since this business began, Henry’s has grown from zero customers to supplying over 350 hospitality businesses across Scotland, and an ever-growing number of households through Henry’s at Home.
Through university partnerships, Henry’s also collaborates with students on market research and branding – staying ahead in a fast-changing scene.
A student once challenged them to find out just how many beans they’d sold since starting out. The answer? Over 134 tonnes of coffee or nearly 2 trillion beans, translating to more than 8 million cups served by their customers.
“That made us stop, reflect and celebrate just how far we’ve come,” says Jill.
The company’s success is rooted in recognising what their customers face: rising costs, fierce competition and an industry that never stands still.
That’s why they:
Brian explains: “Coffee has become a huge part of everyday life in a way that few commodities have. Many young people pop out for coffee instead of going to the pub; households want fresh beans over instant. We help our customers tap into that.”

Though Henry himself is only turning 11 this October, and is “more into ice cream just now”, he keeps a watchful eye on the business: “Tell me, Papa, how’s my coffee business going?”
Even at a primary school business day, Brian jokes: “I had to be on my best behaviour, as my boss was in the classroom.”
Now, with growth of 3–5 new customers a month, the Henry’s team has no plans to slow down. And with Jill’s love of tea, a new venture could soon be brewing.
“We built this on experience, honesty and a smile and we’re still growing, bean by bean,” says Brian.
