Fintry Sports Club - keeping villagers and visitors fed. Sizzling steaks, tasty hot lunches, home-baking and fresh local produce are just some of the delicious items on offer in its café and village shop.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Fintry Sports Club was founded in 1979. While its original purpose was to offer squash and rugby, it grew to include football, indoor bowling, a riding school, gym and lounge bar.  Run mainly by volunteers, it remains the hub and heart of the village.

CATERING TO THE COMMUNITY

Brenda Ross took over the club in 2012, bringing her experience of running the popular Crown Hotel in Kippen.

She said: “We serve up freshly prepared food seven days a week, with daily specials, quality coffee and delicious home baking at very reasonable prices that keep our customers coming back time and time again.”

The bowling hall also caters for large events out of season. Brenda said: “The bowling hall offers a huge space during the summer months, for weddings, special birthdays and other events.”

VILLAGE SHOP

Brenda also opened a village shop within the sports club, after the local village shop shut its doors for the final time. An addition that has helped the community cope with Coronavirus.

Brenda said: “When the coronavirus pandemic began and lockdown measures were introduced in March 2020, the club remained open as a lifeline for locals who couldn’t travel.

“We stocked local suppliers such as Tulloch’s the butcher, Colpi Ice Cream, Cat’s Cakes of Kippen and Old Leckie; as well as offering takeaway meals every Friday and Saturday throughout the pandemic.

“Our team of staff are hard working and dedicated to the club’s ethos and have played a key role in the success of the sports club.”
