Originally constructed as bank in 1825 before being converted into an infirmary in the 1870s, Colessio has evolved again in recent years, streamlining its hospitality offering to concentrate on quality over quantity.
The change may seem subtle from the outside, but inside, it’s meant a shift in direction and a renewed sense of purpose.
“We wanted to bring clarity to what we do well,” says manager Lee Norris. “People don’t just come here to sleep, eat or drink. They come to create moments they’ll remember. That’s our responsibility and our motivation.”
A refreshed identity, shortening the name from Hotel Colessio to simply Colessio, reflects this modern shift.

With 39 stylish and contemporary bedrooms, Colessio attracts guests exploring central Scotland’s historic and natural landmarks and bookable experiences, from distilleries and farm tours to lochs and film locations. But it also serves locals as a setting for weddings, birthdays, weekend catch-ups and afternoon tea indulgence.
“That mix of visitors and locals is part of Colessio’s charm,” says Lee.
The building may date back over two centuries, but its future depends on the people working inside it today.
Colessio employs a team of 21, many of whom contribute not only to the venue’s experience but to the community beyond its walls.
Colessio is a founding supporter of Stirling Pride and continues to support BEN Charity, a benevolent fund.
“This building has stood through generations,” Lee says. “Our job is to make sure it stands proud for the next one: for the city, the community and everyone who walks through our doors.”

Colessio champions Stirling’s food scene rather than competing with it, proudly partnering with award-winning restaurant Brea to bring guests a standout dining experience.
With a guest dining allocation at Brea, every stay offers something new.
This collaboration is just the start. In 2026, Colessio will expand its food and drink offering with a menu showcasing Stirling’s best local produce.
