Brothers Stuart and David Fraser, who grew up in the Loch Lomond area, are the third generation of their family to work in hospitality. They opened their first St Mocha coffee shop in Balmaha in 2014 to meet the community’s need for high-quality coffee.
The business has since expanded, with additional locations in Carbeth and Aberfoyle (The Station), and plans for three more shops on the horizon.
“When we set up our business there was a lack of good quality coffee in the area.
“We wanted to create a space where people could enjoy the stunning scenery with a perfect cup of coffee – one that’s ethical, sustainable, and roasted right on-site.
“We love welcoming our regular customers and are thankful for their ongoing support as we celebrate our 10th year in business,” said Stuart.

In 2017, the brothers founded Loch Lomond Coffee Co. to perfect their house blend – a harmonious combination of Brazilian, Guatemalan and Colombian Washed beans.
Their signature blend and single origin bean selection is roasted in-house, ensuring freshness and quality in every cup.
The quality of St Mocha’s coffee hasn’t gone unnoticed. Their Station Coffee Shop in Aberfoyle earned the 2022 Traveller’s Choice Award.
The coffee company’s logo, a striking red squirrel, reflects their commitment to sustainability and wildlife conservation. For every retail bag of coffee sold, 50p is donated to red squirrel conservation efforts within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
David said: “We’re extremely proud of our efforts toward Net Zero.
“From solar panels and biomass energy to electric vehicles and compostable materials, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.”

Stuart explained: “The name “St Mocha” comes from Balmaha’s rich Gaelic heritage.
“The village’s name, Bealach Mo-Cha, means “the pass of Saint Mocha,” referring to Saint Kentigerna, the patron saint of the parish.
“This Irish widow settled on Inchcailloch—”the isle of the old woman” — and dedicated her life to preaching in Balmaha.”
St Mocha prides itself on sourcing locally for everything from food to gifts. In addition to serving homemade ice cream, cakes, and delicious meals, they stock products from local artisans such as Lomond Soap, Loch Lomond Rocks Candles, Balmaha Honey and creations from Cheryl Jones Designs and Kilo Papa Studios.
David said: “We take pride in delivering high-quality products while supporting local businesses. Collaboration is essential to creating a strong community, helping us all thrive and reinvest in the region.”
St Mocha’s community spirit extends beyond products. They actively support local charities and events, and contribute to conservation projects through Friends of Loch Lomond, Parklife magazine and red squirrel preservation efforts.

The brothers collaborate with several local businesses, including Truffle Events, Amo Torta, Skinner of Kippen, Muirhead’s Dairy, and Fondly Iced. You’ll even find their pop-up coffee cart at Glasgow Warriors’ home games at Scotstoun Stadium.
As the business grows, Stuart and David are excited to move their roastery into a larger, purpose-built space, allowing them to supply more local businesses with their coffee.
