Friday 17 November will see Fodder + Farm host a Harvest Dinner and Film Screening spotlighting produce from Upper Ballaird Farm Coop.
The event has been made possible through sponsorship and support from Forth Environment Link and the Landworker’s Alliance.
Lucy Pattinson, head chef and business partner at Fodder + Farm, will curate a seasonal meal using ingredients sourced from Upper Ballaird, setting the stage for a night of local culinary delights.
Following the dinner, attendees will be treated to a screening of ‘In Our Hands’ (1h 8min), an inspiring film highlighting the power that small farms have in bringing about a fairer and more sustainable food system. The evening’s agenda will also include an informative talk and Q&A session, offering a chance for community members to learn about local vegetable and cut flower production at Upper Ballaird.
Upper Ballaird Farm Coop is committed to reshaping the local food system, making it fairer for communities, growers, and the environment.
During the winter, the Coop is transitioning to a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, aiming to increase access to locally grown food, while also restoring biodiversity and soil health, mitigating climate change, and providing stable incomes for landworkers.
Louise Docherty from Upper Ballaird Farm Coop invites the community to join their journey, stating, “This year we have shown that we can make healthy, high quality, veg available to the people of Stirling.
“This winter we ask people to join us on our journey to change Stirling’s food system.”
The Scottish food system faces significant challenges, with the average adult consuming just three portions of fruits and vegetables daily (source Nourish Scotland), agriculture being a major greenhouse gas emitter and nearly half of farms struggling to pay their farmers a living wage.
Lucy Pattinson from Fodder + Farm puts it like this: “As a chef there is no greater pleasure than working with high quality, local and seasonal produce. Not only am I able to create dishes with the freshest ingredients possible, it is also a great opportunity to support our local farmers, share their story too and become part of the solution to fixing our broken food system.’
